Always ride trails and/or equipment within your ability
Ride single file and allow adequate spacing
Stay on I&M canal towpath
Ride defensively
Understand and test mechanical systems before departing area

Jumping a bike or skidding of tires is specifically prohibited
Renters should understand that they ride at their own risk > Helmets are provided and REQUIRED TO BE WORN!
Protective clothing and safety gear is recommended:

Payment for damages due to abuse or failure to obey the rules may include,
in addition to repair costs, compensation for lost rental income and staff time expenses.

These bicycle safety rules are in place for your greater enjoyment and safety.

  1. Always wear a helmet.
  2. Follow the rules of the road, including traffic signals and signs.
  3. Use hand signals to indicate turns and stops.
  4. Use lights and reflectors when riding at night or in low light conditions.
  5. Stay visible by wearing bright or reflective clothing.
  6. Avoid distractions such as using your phone or listening to music while riding.
  7. Keep both hands on the handlebars at all times.
  8. Do not ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  9. Check your bike before each ride to ensure it is in proper working condition.
  10. Always be aware of your surroundings and anticipate the actions of other road users.
